The end is nigh. The Big Bang Theory is officially ending on CBS after 12 seasons. The production company issued the official statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close,” WBTV and Chuck Lorre Productions said in a joint statement to the Hollywood Reporter.
During its run thus far, the CBS sitcom has earned 52 Emmy nominationswith 10 wins, though none for Outstanding Comedy Series. It was television’s No. 1 ranked comedy until the Roseanne revival bumped it down to the runner-up slot last season. The show has the distinction of being the longest-running multi-camera comedy in history with 279 episodes.
