Philippines’ John Raspado Wins Mr. Gay World 2017 Crown
The ninth annual Mr. Gay World competition took place in Madrid and Maspalomas, Spain from May 5 to 10, 2017. 21 delegates from five continents competed for the honor to become a global ambassador for the LGBT community.
In the end, John Fernandez Raspado, Mr. Gay Philippines, beat out the competition to snag the 2017 crown. The 35-year-old entrepreneur also snagged winning sashes for the Swimsuit, Evening Dress, Interview, Voto Online and Social Media categories. He is the first winner to hail from the Philippines and second overall Asian winner in the competition’s history. His platform is focusing on HIV advocacy.
“Thank you to the people behind MGWPO (Mr. Gay World Philippines), especially to Wilbert Tolentino, for always guiding me on my journey to success and to those who helped me backstage and my fellow candidates. Especially the delegates of Belgium and Venezuela, who were my roommates,” wrote Raspado on Facebook.
Cándido Arteaga from Spain and Belgium’s Jamie Deblieck were 1st and 2nd runner-ups respectively. Check out the Top 3 below and shirtless photos of Mr. Gay World 2017. Congrats to Raspado and the committee for selecting a worthy winner.
